How Can I Fix - ATI Radeon 5770+Windows 7 x64 freeze up?

ATI Radeon 5770+Windows 7 x64 freeze up

While web browsing or playing a game, my computer randomly freezes up with a random colored screen (red, green, striped(red/white)) and I have to do a complete shutdown.  The temps have not gone above 40C.  I am not sure whether this is a driver issue
or a cooling issue because it's hard to test.  Most of the time it works, ~once a day it fails.

Thanks,
Level140

Hello Level140,
a)    Have you made any changes to your computer recently, such as new hardware or software installed, or updates applied?
b)    What is the amount of RAM installed on the computer?
c)    Since when are you facing this issue?
Method 1: Since the computer randomly freezes with random colored screen, there are high chances that the issue is with the display adapter.
Our first action will be to uninstall the display drivers, download the latest
display drivers from manufacturer's website and install it.

To uninstall drivers follow the steps given below.
1.
Click Start, type Device Manager in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
2.
Click Continue.
The Device Manager Dialog box is displayed.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
3.
In the list of device types, click the kind of device, and then locate the specific device that is not functioning.
4.
Right-click the Display adapter and then click Properties.

5.
Click the Driver tab.

6.
Click Uninstall.

7.
Click OK.
And restart the computer
Method 2: If you’re unable to install the drivers, then let’s try to update the display drivers manually from device manager.
To do so, please follow the steps below:
You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.
      1.    Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking
Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then, under
System, clicking Device Manager.
If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.‌
      2.    In the list of hardware categories, find the device that you want to update, and then double-click the device name.
      3.    Click the Driver tab, click
Update Driver, and then follow the instructions.
If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  • Download the Microsoft Windows ISO (installation device) from the following website:
  • Users must select the appropriate ISO, either 32 bit or 64 bit, depending upon their individual computer.
  • Extract the ISO file to a separate USB device or burn the program to a compact disc.
  • Run the Microsoft Windows 10 upgrade directly from the software that you have thus created.
