Troubleshooting:access denied when trying to save an excel file

access denied when trying to save an excel file

I have a user that has the AD permission rights of Read/Execute; Write; Read,; List on a folder.
When he tries to save a file to that folder from Excel,  A screen pops up that says "The file filename already exists.
Do you want to replace the existing
file?" Clicks Yes and it says Access Denied.

The weird thing about this is that the file did not exist.  And it creates a .tmp file and a file with 0 bytes.
I delete those two files and we try again and samething.

What is going on???

Also, if he had only "Read" rights at the top of the folder structure,  would the deny override the write permission on that subfolder??

Thanks
Cathy

Solutions to the Problem access denied when trying to save an excel file

Download SmartPCFixer for Free Now

Hmm, let's try turning off the 'Scan Network Drives' option within the Anti-Virus and with Excel 2007, within Options > Trust Centre > Trust Center Settings > Trusted Documents, you should see an option for Trusting Network Locations...
what is checked there?

Where are the Excel documents stored on the local drive or the network?

EDIT: Another thought...

Check that the user has 'Modify' permissions for the target save location.
Excel 2007 modifies temporary files in the target directory as part of the save process.

In this method we will try to Boot in Safe mode with Networking and see if the error still persists.

  • Search "MSCONFIG" and Open.
  • Click on Boot Tab
  • Tick Safe Boot in Boot Option
  • Select Network.
  • Click Apply and OK.
  • Reboot your System.
