What I'm trying to say is: Does the automatic updater install Windows 8.1 on Windows 8, because I don't want to install 8.1, due to earlier problems when I installed it a few months ago and had to restore my pc.

In this method we will try to Boot in Safe mode with Networking and see if the error still persists.

Search "MSCONFIG" and Open.
Click on Boot Tab
Tick Safe Boot in Boot Option
Select Network.
Click Apply and OK.
Reboot your System.
